Hi, I’m Angela

I know the struggles of trying to get pregnant, and having the dissatisfaction month after month. And when I did get pregnant, the anxious thoughts about pregnancy, labor and delivery, and parenthood started to kick in. I didn’t know how to be a mom, while working and being a wife. My postpartum depression lasted 7 months, where I would cry out of nowhere and feel so lonely. I had a beautiful healthy baby and an awesome support system, but I couldn’t stop my feelings and tears. Logically I know it was part of the process but emotionally I wasn’t able to ease the sadness.

If you’ve found yourself on my page, you are probably going through all the mixed emotions that come with prenatal, postpartum or parenting. And you’re wondering if therapy is for you. I want to acknowledge the time and efforts you put into doing the research for yourself. It can be scary to start looking into therapy, and what you need support with. It takes courage to be doing what you are, especially as a mom or a mom to be!

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #119519) and owner of Your Journey Within. I am also a certified Perinatal Mental Health provider who is passionate about working with women navigate through their pregnancy, through postpartum, and through motherhood. I graduated with my Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy from USC and began working with children, teens, and adults experiencing various of types of trauma, family conflicts, and and diagnosis. My extensive work with kids, teens and families has solidified my interest in working with moms-to-be. That connect between mother and fetus, and the way mothers take care of themselves and their newborns in postpartum helps shape the foundation of the relationship. During these crucial periods, moms must learn to engage in self-care for themselves - mentally, physically and emotionally, to be able to be present with their child.

As a perinatal therapist, I am passionate about working with moms to be navigate their thoughts and feelings about their pregnancy. To help new moms voice their needs with their partners and prepare for the transition to motherhood. I am also passionate about helping women during the postpartum period, to work through the adjustment, the anxiety and the depression. The postpartum period is a crucial time for families, especially new moms. I help moms navigate through the many roles they have to upkeep.

The relationship is the most important part of the therapeutic journey. I  emphasize the importance of building rapport and a genuine connection between therapist and client to encourage autonomy and change within the individual. The sincere connect between therapist and client helps clients feel comfortable to show up as they are and to be open and honest about their thoughts and feelings. I am committed to honoring and holding space for your experiences and all of the different parts of you.

As a modern therapist, I like to pull strategies and techniques from various theoretical orientations like strength based, CBT and mindfulness because no person is the same, no problem is the same, and no thought process is the same. Most importantly I like to meet my clients where they’re at and tailor my sessions to what my clients need in the moment.

Therapy is not a linear process, there will be ups and downs but I will be there supporting you along your journey, celebrating all the milestones and changes you take for the desired life you want.
